Visco in our team who has a story to share.

“I am proud to be one of the sewers in this amazing Hong Kong Masks Australia group. I am grateful that I can use my small and not very honed sewing skills to help everyone in need during this hard time. I have been in Australia for quite a long time and I love everything about this country; beautiful weather, natural scenery and the Australian people are very kind. To me, I think this is a great time to pay my community back.

Being stuck at home during the lock down, is stressful to everyone. Worrying about the number of new cases, work that I didn’t finish before leaving the office, the progress of all the cases I have been following, as well trying to source sanitising products (this is the most stressful part, making phone calls every day just to try and find where to get bleach, alcohol etc). It literally drove me crazy. I find that by making masks and chatting with the ladies in the sewing groups, it helps to stabilise my mental conditions by distracting me from all these concerns.

Also, sewing and donating masks keeps me busy and motivated and helps me to plan my day and stay on track, even though I am stuck at home. It’s great getting to know people from outside of work and the ladies in this group are really nice, devoted and super helpful in getting materials etc. I was out of elastic but was unable to get out to get it myself, so one of the admin (Olivia) brought it to me personally. I’m enjoying the time I spend in the chat group, not only the “business” chat, but also casual ladies’ chat. I am super happy that I met a group of ladies who share the same values as me and of course I have learnt a lot of sewing tips and also where and how to source materials at a cheaper price.”
