Volunteers play a big and important role in promoting HK masks. They contribute their time, skills and expertise which enhance the running of our program. Plus, they are super passionate in what they do!

One of our beautiful volunteers, Sze Sze is sharing why she loves being a part of the volunteers team:

“Why did I start sewing my first mask? It was because I have a 6 month old daughter who needed to go to the clinic to get her vaccinations done. I was so worried, because she is so young, we wouldn’t be able to buy any masks in her size. Even in adult sizes, I couldn’t place any orders online. They were all out of stock, and I began to feel hopeless. One day, I accidentally read a news piece about Hong Kong masks.

As a mum, I believe I am responsible for protecting my daughter from getting any sickness. So, my first DIY mask was for my daughter. When I put the picture of my first mask on Instagram, I received many requests from my friends in a short period of time. They were all asking me to sell the mask to them. It was then I realised that I am not the only person who couldn’t buy any masks or afford the expensive mask that were being sold. I felt so insecure about not having any masks at home, I even didn’t have courage to go out without masks! That’s why I have decided to make masks for all my friends that were asking for help. I have already given away more than 80 masks to those who needed it. I am from Hong Kong. I know what happened in 2003 with SARS and I truly believe that masks can effectively protect myself, my family and my friends. I hope that more and more people will learn how to sew their own masks and that they will help make some for people that are in need of them as well.”

Thank you to our sewing team!!

They all are busy making HK mask for the free giveaway to those who are currently in need of one.
