As the lockout continued, life became more and more difficult every day, In Victoria the panic buying masks has begun. The entire situation brings out the best in people. Our volunteer initiative aimed to help our most vulnerable citizens successfully reduce their risk of COVID-19 contracting.

Although we have a group of Australian-Hongkonger that donates materials and stamps to our sewing volunteers, the demand for masks far exceeds our ability to produce them. Our amazing volunteers, however, continue to work on producing as many fabric masks as they can, because we realised that we were running out of time to control the COVID-19 crisis.

While some kids complain about the lack of parental time, our volunteers are working out a way to involve them in such a meaningful volunteer project. There is no boundary of age if we have kind intentions to help people out. Children could help with the masks packaging, put a stamp on the mail, make a coffee, and the older kid could also help with cutting fabric. We treated it as a kind of education, to educate the kids to be a giving person.

Before COVID-19 hit Australia in March, the people in Hong Kong received lots of support from people all over the world. It is now time for us to pay back and to help out our Australian community. The battle with this virus can only be fought as a community, and needs the cooperation of everyone in the community. We hope this little bit of help can give some positivity to everyone and we will win this battle, together.
