Sophie wants to share with us her story:

I moved to Australia 4 years ago. I am very grateful to have this opportunity to live in this beautiful country. I always feel like I have to be doing something and contribute back to the Australian community. Fortunately, I met the founder, Olivia, online, as well as other volunteers. The HKMA giveaway project formed and getting together with a group of like-minded volunteers, to help the community during these difficult times.

During our participation in this HK Mask project, we received many messages, from those struggling in this pandemic. Most of them were elderly, some with chronic illnesses, disabilities, and homelessness. They have been in isolation for so long, some probably not being in contact with anyone. They just like meeting a new friend and shared their stories with us. I am glad that I could have a chance to hear all these stories, at least, they have someone to talk to.

Recently, we have received an elderly request for a mask who is living alone and had just been discharged from the hospital. Knowing her birthday was coming up, our volunteers decided to give her a birthday blessing by sending her birthday cards. Some of them even made use of their creative ideas and DIY cards with their kids. I was grateful when I told my kid what we are doing and she was so excited to make a birthday card to this client. It is about educating your kid to be a giving person.

We believe that our project is not only about sending masks to others, but also about spreading love and care among our communities. When this pandemic is over, and it will be over, when we look back on this moment, I hope we will not only remember how to do hand washes and keep social distancing but also the small acts of kindness done by us or to us.
